Fun With Scraps

The weather today was very agreeable for building compost bins. We found some metal posts in the basement and some pieces of leftover fence in the lower shed to cover all the materials. So we were off to a great start.

Material Costs: $0

Meg took charge of hammering in all the posts, while I measured and cut the fencing. Overall the project took us about an hour. Each of the three new bins are 3'x3' and will become the new home for the leaves that have been fermenting in the chicken's pen. We'll be sure to share some photos when we swap the leaves around.

You guys are so awesome - did you know that for $0 dollars today, you all made something that is selling online for $109??!! (Trap Wire Compost Bin: http://www.johnnyseeds.com/catalog/product.aspx?scommand=search&search=9652&item=9652) I love clever people!! (Now, will you share with me your secret for doing split screen photos?) :-)

Nicely done! I find that my wire bins dry out too quickly on the sides, so I try to slide cardboard sheets into the sides when I can.

109 DOLLARS???

Criminals. Do not buy that! That should cost maybe 25 bucks to build brand new.

Rob, that's a great idea! We have the same problem, and that sounds like a perfect fix.

hey, did you guys know that the Farm show is going on in H'burg through the 12th? I've never been but maybe you could check online to see what it's about. You might get some ideas for your "Future House Farm". Mom

Hey Farmgirl_dk, Split screen photos, I think, are a pain. Usually I get frustrated and ask Meg to help me out. It takes a skilled hand at moving things around and resizing and all sorts of little stuff that I have no patience for but Meg makes it look easy.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but we use Firefox as our web browser. When we are in the compose screen there is an icon that allows us to upload photos directly through blogger. the options we choose to do split screen are: justification (none) and photo size (small). After the photos are done converting, which you can do four at a time, while in the compose screen (not html) you can manipulate the photos however you choose. Good luck. and thanks for the comment.

The farm show has a 900 pound sculpture of a school bus made out of butter. We should start looking for other conferences and shows and stuff to go to, too. I think there are a bunch in the sprin.

Wow - that looks much better than my pile! Good job!

WG, thanks! Our first compost heap was just a messy pile of crap at the corner of the garden, but over the past year or so we've gotten more organized about it.
