The Beaver Moon

Meg heard on the radio today that the full moon tonight is the beaver moon. I guess it's at this time of year that beavers start stocking up for the winter.

Edited to change Stalking to Stocking. Thanks Briel. And thanks to the South Florida education system, you served me well.

Reacquainted

The garden continues to produce. After the tomatoes died back, the garden took on a shaggy look. It's quite embarrassing. There have been a few frosts, but the floating row covers have kept the greens and beans in check. I actually think the produce during the fall is much sweeter than its spring counterpart. That's probably wrong, but eh.

We took a step closer to Future House this week. I had an interview for a tenure position on Wednesday. Yeah, I'll leave it at that. The school is amazing and land in the area is affordable.

The moon this morning looked like the print of a thumbnail on leather-hard clay.

Zoom

It's no APOD, but I am still pretty impressed with the zoom potential on one of the new lenses. Blows our poor old Canon out of the water.

Full Moon

Tonight a total lunar eclipse will be visible over most of Europe and North America. It will start around 10:00 EST and continue until just before 11. We don't get another total eclipse unti llate 2010.

It should be nice and clear in our neck of the woods. If you can, get out and see it.

Great Balls of Fire

We didn't even make it out to the garden today, and there's no telling what's been going on out there. It has been really warm lately (50°F today), so maybe tomorrow we can report that our fall vegetables have made a resurgence.

But for now, instead of reading about or chickens or our compost or whatever it is that you come here to read about, run outside in a few hours and check out the Geminids meteor shower. It happens every year at this time, but this year is supposed to be a real show.
