Yellow Pear Tomatoes, Kind Of

These little yellow pear tomatoes are really cute. They're about the size of a typical cherry or grape tomato, and they grow in clusters. Unfortunately our particular yellow pear tomatoes really suck. I think they have wilt or something because all season they've looked just pathetic—dry and droopy regardless of the watering schedule. We haven't had tomatoes in that particular area before, so who knows.

We should probably give up and yank them because the tomatoes themselves don't taste so hot, either. They are pretty dry, and the skin is tough. However, the chickens devour them anyway, so they've earned themselves at least a little more time out in the garden.

Oh no!!! I'm so sorry they're not doing well. Yellow Pears and Sungolds are my all-time cherry tomato faves. (Yellow Plums are also up there.) I grow them in the greenhouse bed every year, but I confess that my best-ever Yellow Pear crop was from a volunteer in one of the compost bins!

Our yellow cherry tomatoes did the same thing last year. The plant always looked pathetic, didn't produce much, and the tomatoes were just not very good. I suspected it had some kind of disease, too. It grew right next to our 4 other tomatoes, so I know it wasn't the soil.

We added ours to tomato sauce, though, and it gave the sauce another level of taste - a slight bit of sour that was nice.

Despite their crappy taste, that is one ultra, kick-ass tomato photo!
