Movin' right along

Last year at this time we were preparing for a move to a house we didn't own. Everything in the garden was late and we completely missed the early season. This year is a different story.

We have about 112 little pea shoots (1/2 shelling, 1/2 snow).

This will be the strawberry bed. In the space around each plant we planted spinach seeds; we'll see how that goes.

Our garlic is doing quite kickass.

I'm hoping we'll be having salads soon. I don't know if you can see it, but there are little onions growing between each row of lettuce.

Your garlic is much ahead of ours, but I think we're beating you on peas! To be fair, we start ours in the greenhouse.

Our shallots have done exactly nothing so far, your onions are so much more advanced than the shallots, it's rather depressing.

I've never seen strawberries and spinach planted together before, is the assumption that the strawberries are over before the spinach is ready or are you harvesting it as baby leaves before the strawberries ripen!

Hey AB,

We planted the spinach with the strawberries because they apparently work well together. With a city garden we have to be pretty stingy and creative with our dirt space. We're assuming that the strawberries won't need an incredible amount of room this year, since we just put them in, so we should be able to let the spinach reach full maturity. What we'll do in future years—who knows?

Gardening is such a good hobby. By just simply planting plants on our backyard will make us feel happy specially during harvest season.
