Ouch. I'm so sorry! What kind of spinach is this, so that I know never to buy it?
I have had the same problem before, and it has discouraged me from growing spianch. Have you ever grown lambs quarters? Its a weed (almost) but won't bolt as easily and can be used the same way as spinach.
That is so odd! Do you think the temperature in the seedling area caused it?
I've never actually started spinach indoors, always direct seeded it. And yes, it bolts too soon even then.

I always direct seed spinach too. While bolting at room temperature is a little unreasonable, it's not unusual for it to bolt in 75F weather.
There must be some other reason it's stressed, maybe not enough water or light... Spinach bolts quickly when it's stressed for any reason.
It's a cold loving plant, that can tolerate light frosts. It's also pretty fast growing, which is I think why most people direct seed it.
I don't know what's up with this spinach. This is our first time trying spinach and lettuce indoors. The lettuce is doing great, but obviously the spinach is a bit more picky. We've always direct seeded in the past, but we had extra grow table space and thought we'd give it a try. At least we have plenty of seeds left for outside.
It's a mix from Pinetree Garden Seeds, so I don't know what particular variety our bolter might be. The rest of the plants are doing okay, though not as good as I think seeds would do outdoors in a couple weeks.
NW Nature Nut, I know what plant you're talking about, but we've never tried that. I'm not sure I've seen it growing around here, though I'm sure it could be done. Interesting ...
Patrick, I think you're right. I'm guessing that it's a little too warm and dry in here for it. It's definitely not 75° in here, but it is pretty dry--the spinach is unhappy, that's for sure!

must be too warm...I've never tried starting spinach inside, it seems to do so well just throwing the seeds in the raised beds in april...
I am growing it for the first time this year. Didn't have any idea it could bolt. Goodness, it's already gotten above 75* outside a few times already. We'll see, the whole garden is an experiment anyway.
Grrrr. Bastard spinach. I hope the lettuce maintains its manners, or you have reason to be really POd.
